SET Environmental - Waste Management - Full-time

Starting Pay - $30.00 per hour or more depending on experience

Job Summary

The Waste Coordinator is responsible for the comprehensive management of onsite waste operations, serving as the primary lead for the SET Onsite Support program. This role oversees the entire lifecycle of waste—from generation and classification to profiling and disposal—while ensuring full regulatory compliance with RCRA, DOT, EPA, and TCEQ requirements. The Waste Coordinator balances high-level data management and client relations with hands-on field activities, including spill response and equipment operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership: Lead field teams to safely manage all aspects of client waste programs; oversee core program background operations and program status.
  • Waste Lifecycle Management: Manage waste generation oversight, including precise classification, profiling, sampling, and final disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous streams.
  • Shipment & Logistics: Prepare and oversee waste shipments; ensure all loads meet strict DOT regulations and quality control standards prior to leaving the site.
  • Compliance & Tracking: Manage manifesting and track material from site departure until return manifest receipt; maintain rigorous "cradle-to-grave" documentation.
  • Inspections & Maintenance: Execute required inspections of 90-day storage areas and satellite accumulation areas; oversee housekeeping and maintain waste management supplies.
  • Environmental Safety: Lead spill prevention and cleanup activities; act as the point of contact for compliance-related issues and emergency response.
  • Sustainability & Strategy: Partner with stakeholders to provide recommendations on waste minimization, landfill avoidance, and by-product recycling; track and report cost reductions.
  • Client & Internal Relations: Maintain strong client relationships through daily interaction, weekly stakeholder meetings, and cross-divisional coordination.
  • Operational Support: Support site operations through equipment operation as needed and maintain technical data management systems.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of practical field experience in hazardous waste handling, lab packing, chemical consolidation, and manifesting.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep knowledge of RCRA, DOT, EPA, and TCEQ regulations.
  • Certifications: Must hold or be able to obtain/maintain:
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER
  • RCRA/DOT Certification
  • Lab Pack & High Hazardous Materials certifications
  • Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) designation
  • Forklift and Medical Certification (including respirator use)
  • Applicable site-specific credentials
  • Technical Skills: Competent in MS Office and digital data management/reporting.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).

Supervisory Scope

  • Direct leadership of onsite teams to execute waste program goals safely.
  • Oversight of program background operations and SET Onsite Support initiatives.
  • Mentorship and training of crew members on compliance and SOPs.

  • Must pass medical surveillance for respirator use and hazardous material handling.
  • Ability to operate industrial equipment (forklift, etc.) as required.

Schedule

  • Full-time; must be available for project-specific schedules and potential emergency response needs.
