Fryeburg Academy, a 700-student day and boarding high school located in Western Maine/the Mount Washington Valley, seeks two technical arts teachers beginning in the fall of 2026. The full-time position involves teaching five classes in both Semester I and Semester II, and three classes in May Term; the part-time position involves teaching two classes during Semesters I and II, as well as two classes during May Term. (The last three weeks of each school year are a stand-alone period called May Term in which teachers offer non-traditional classes focusing on experiential learning or using knowledge in new contexts.) Fryeburg Academy faculty also have responsibilities connected to the school's boarding program. The Academy, therefore, seeks individuals who enjoy working with high school students in and out of the classroom and who wish to strengthen its community through a commitment to various roles.

Essential Job Functions
- Teach wood- and metal- working classes at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels
- Serve as an advisor for a group of 12 -14 students (FT position only)
- Serve on a dorm team (FT position only)
- A strong belief in independent education, and particularly the mission of Fryeburg Academy
- Outstanding knowledge of wood- and metal-working techniques
- Outstanding instructional skills driven by a passion for the technical arts
- The ability to motivate, support, and challenge students in a working shop environment
- The ability to effectively instruct students with a range of skills and experience, from students new to tech arts to those who hope to pursue a career in it
- The ability to strictly enforce safety protocols for the use of complex machinery, tools, and laboratory equipment
- The ability to manage the workshop, including inventorying supplies, ordering materials, and performing or overseeing equipment repairs
- The ability to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures
- The ability to contribute to the vision of the Technology, Tech Arts and the Trades Department in areas of curriculum development, student skill development, and expanded offerings (particularly CNC/CAD)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining high professional standards
- Computer literacy skills
- Bachelor's degree in education or technical arts field required; master’s degree preferred
- Maine State teaching certification or other professional trade certification preferred
- Experience working with students outside the classroom (e.g., tutoring, coaching, working in a residential or camp setting or as an activity advisor) is a plus
- All Fryeburg Academy employees are subject to the Maine Dept. of Education Criminal History Record Check. The successful candidate will also be subject to a background check by the Academy’s chosen provider.
