Key Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance & Cleaning:
- Clean assigned sections of the building according to established specifications and procedures
- Maintain all areas to ensure they present no problems or interruptions to educational activities
- Perform routine janitorial duties, including floor care, restroom maintenance, and waste management
- Keep buildings and grounds secure and free of safety obstructions
- Maintain all Federal, State, Local, and Board of Education safety and code requirements
- Stay informed about OSHA, DEP, and Diocese of Portland Maine's mandates
- Report ADA, OSHA, and general safety/maintenance problems immediately to supervisors
- Use all required safety equipment when working with chemicals and mechanical equipment
- Assist with various projects, including painting, furniture moving, and assembly
- Substitute for Maintenance Mechanic when needed
- Maintain work-related records and prepare reports as requested
- Respond to emergencies when required
- Assist visitors utilizing school facilities with directions and equipment setup
- Provide courteous, professional service to all staff, students, and visitors
- Support school events and activities as needed
Required Education:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent Diploma
- Valid State of Maine Criminal History Records Check Approval
- Experience in the maintenance/janitorial field preferred
- Self-motivated with the ability to follow supervisor directions promptly and courteously
- Professional demeanor when interacting with staff, students, and visitors
- General knowledge of building maintenance and mechanical systems
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting (assistance required for over 50 lbs.)
- Capability for pulling, bending, stooping, squatting, and reaching
- Hand and finger strength for operating machinery and gripping tools
- Leg and hand strength for climbing ladders and working from heights
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods
- Comfortable working with moving mechanical equipment and chemicals
