Service Specialists is recruiting on behalf of an established accounting firm seeking an experienced Client Accounting Services (CAS) Professional to join its team in Ridgeland, Mississippi.

This is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded accounting professional who enjoys working with a variety of clients and taking ownership of the full accounting cycle. The ideal candidate will bring strong general ledger and financial reporting experience, along with hands-on expertise in payroll tax filings, reconciliations and resolving payroll tax issues with federal, state and local agencies. The firm offers flexibility based on the candidate and experience level, with the potential for this position to be fully remote, hybrid or on-site.

In This Role, You Will:

• Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of clients, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, adjusting entries and financial statement preparation.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
• Lead month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Prepare, review and reconcile federal, state and local payroll tax filings.
• Research and resolve payroll tax notices, discrepancies, penalties, missing or late filings and payment application issues.
• Communicate directly with the IRS and state/local taxing authorities on behalf of clients.
• Assist with payroll tax registrations, account closures, amended returns and multistate filing requirements.
• Reconcile payroll reports, tax filings, general ledger accounts and payroll-related liabilities.
• Identify discrepancies and recommend appropriate corrective action.
• Help clients improve accounting processes, internal controls and financial reporting practices.
• Maintain accurate workpapers and supporting documentation.
• Communicate regularly with clients regarding financial results, outstanding items and compliance deadlines.
• Coordinate with payroll providers, tax professionals and other stakeholders.
• Assist with income tax preparation and compliance based on experience.
• Manage multiple client engagements and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and client service.

What We’re Looking For:

• 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within public accounting, outsourced accounting, bookkeeping or Client Accounting Services.
• Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, general ledger processes and financial reporting.
• Hands-on experience preparing and reconciling payroll tax returns.
• Experience resolving payroll tax notices, discrepancies and other compliance issues.
• Experience communicating directly with the IRS and state/local taxing authorities.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online; QuickBooks Desktop experience is a plus.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent reconciliation, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, timely work.
• Ability to independently manage multiple clients, priorities and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain accounting matters clearly to clients.
• Ability to handle confidential financial, payroll and taxpayer information with discretion.

Education & Preferred Experience:

• Associate degree in Accounting or a related field required; bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline preferred.
• Experience with individual or business income tax preparation is a plus.
• Multistate payroll tax experience is strongly preferred.
• Professional certifications are valued but not required.
