Service Rentals & Supplies, Inc. is a locally owned and operated family business servicing the families and businesses of Hawaii for 52 years. We have six stores located on four islands (Maui, Kauai, Oahu, and Hawaii Island) and offer a wide variety of construction equipment for both homeowners, businesses, and those in the construction industry.

We are seeking a Service Manager 1 to oversee the day-to-day service operations at our Hawaii Island branches. This is an opportunity for an experienced mechanic looking to take the next step or a service manager seeking more autonomy and the challenge of contributing to the branch’s growth and success.

Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Day shift, Monday to Friday and Saturdays (rotation)
Location: Kona

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:

  • High School Diploma (GED)

Experience:

  • 5 years of equipment experience.
  • 1 year of supervisory and team leadership experience.
  • 1 year of mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting experience.


Preferred: 2 years’ small to medium engine (23 horsepower gas engine or up to 800 horsepower diesel engines) and equipment repair and maintenance experience; 3 years’ experience operating construction equipment; and 3 years’ hydraulic and electrical trouble shooting on equipment; 1 year experience welding and soldering; POS system experience.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage (monitor, coaching, evaluate, etc.) the mechanic and the mechanic helper.
  • Schedule day-to-day shop operations - organize, prioritize, and schedule repair work for self and assign work to the mechanic.
  • Estimate customer repairs and provide data for the branch budget.
  • Provide a quote for repairs to the manager and customers for bids.
  • Promptly repair and/or check in equipment and update status in system and connect with vendors on repairs as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to obtain parts, etc. to complete repairs efficiently.
  • Train and mentor mechanics and mechanic helpers.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment meeting all safety standards and policies in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Provide excellent customer service during yard service and service calls. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, meeting all safety requirements.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Team player with positive attitude and able to foster team spirit within the company.
  • Computer literate.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Able to understand department budgets, create contracts, warranties, etc.
  • Able to maintain and repair a wide range of equipment in compliance with all laws and regulations.
  • Able to learn to run equipment in order to do basic equipment use training for customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skill to effectively communicate with all coworkers, managers, customers, and vendors honestly, respectfully, and sensitively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to determine when to authorize OT.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Able to pass certified forklift and lift/MEWP training.
  • Able to pass commercial driver physical.
  • Mental dexterity to learn and recall various product information and effectively match products/services with customer needs.
  • Able to learn to read and understand schematics in books or online.
  • Dependable and able to come to work on time as scheduled.


Certificates/Licenses:
Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driver's abstract.

Must have or be able to obtain own tools.

Preferred: TWIC and MARSEC ID Cards

Physical Demands:
Lift up to 90 lbs. occasionally – equipment, supplies, parts; bend/stoop/climb frequently to maintain and repair equipment, check equipment readings and controls that are close to ground, etc. 95% - Outdoor working in base yard. Occasional driving to customer offices or locations to swap out equipment or respond to service calls during regular business hours and after hours as needed.
