Summary

The Truck Driver is responsible for transporting agricultural, construction, and residential equipment between customer and dealership locations. In addition, the Truck Driver provides customer service and promotes the company to all customers.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Operates a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Inspects vehicles to ensure that they are safe to operate and meet all relevant regulations.
  • Follows all driving laws and vehicle safety procedures.
  • Secures and inspects cargo for safe transportation.
  • Records all driving and load activity on applicable forms.
  • Maneuvers vehicles to designated locations.
  • Prepares, loads, and unloads equipment on vehicles.
  • Reports vehicle defects, maintenance needs, accidents, and traffic violations.
  • Performs basic vehicle maintenance.
  • Reads and interprets maps to determine travel routes.
  • Completes and obtains payment and required signatures on customer paperwork.
  • Assists with yard and lot maintenance as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct reports.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of related experience hauling, loading and securing equipment
  • Current/Unrestricted Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in the State of Wisconsin

Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Program Certificate in a related field
  • 3-5 years of related experience

Qualifications

All Service Motor Company employees are expected to have a friendly, positive attitude, a sense of urgency, and the ability to multi-task and solve problems. The following qualifications are required for this position.

  • Knowledge of applicable driving laws and Department of Transportation regulations
  • Customer service skills
  • Time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to see, with or without the use of vision aid devices
  • Ability to communicate in writing in the English language
  • Ability to hear, with or without the use of hearing aid devices
  • Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test and physical examination as required by the Department of Transportation
  • Ability to drive a commercial motor vehicle including possession of a class A commercial driver license
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and a forklift/powered industrial truck

Work Environment

This position works in an office environment and outdoors, while the majority of the time is spent inside a commercial motor vehicle. The varying work environments results in occasional variations in light, sound, temperature, and precipitation levels. There is occasional exposure to dust, other airborne particles, fumes, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. This position routinely operates a commercial motor vehicle and heavy equipment, and occasionally operates light equipment, such as forklifts, lawnmowers, and snowblowers.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

This position requires an employee to frequently sit, use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 50 pounds. This position requires an employee to occasionally stand, walk, kneel, climb, bend, twist, and lift over 50 pounds.
