Position Summary: The Irrigation Technician at Serrano Country Club is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the golf course irrigation systems. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the proper functioning of irrigation equipment to maintain optimal turf conditions and support the overall quality and playability of the golf course.
This is a full-time position. Serrano offers two weeks' vacation, eight sick days and eight paid holidays. Medical, Dental, Vision and Life insurance is available in 60 days from date of hire. 401(k) is available after one year of service with 4% employer match. Complimentary meal and golf privileges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate and monitor the golf course irrigation system, including pumps, controllers, valves, and sprinkler heads, to ensure proper coverage and distribution of water.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance tasks to identify and address issues such as leaks, clogs, or malfunctioning equipment.
- Perform system checks and adjustments to optimize water efficiency and conservation while meeting turf irrigation requirements.
Repairs and Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot irrigation system problems, including electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues.
- Perform repairs and replacements of irrigation components, such as valves, solenoids, pipes, and fittings, as needed to maintain system functionality.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to procure necessary parts and materials for repairs and maintenance activities.
Programming and Calibration:
- Program and adjust irrigation controllers to ensure proper scheduling and timing of watering cycles, taking into account factors such as weather conditions, turfgrass needs, and water restrictions.
- Calibrate irrigation equipment, including sprinkler heads and nozzles, to achieve uniform water distribution and minimize water waste.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of irrigation system inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities, including dates, locations, and work performed.
- Generate reports on irrigation system performance, water usage, and conservation efforts for management review and decision-making purposes.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.
- Comply with all applicable regulations and standards related to irrigation system operation, water usage, and environmental conservation.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in irrigation systems preferred.
- Proven experience working with golf course irrigation systems or similar hydraulic systems.
- Strong knowledge of irrigation system components, including controllers, valves, pumps, and sprinkler heads.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing irrigation system issues.
- Ability to read and interpret irrigation plans, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with other golf course maintenance staff.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills for record keeping and reporting.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials (up to 50 pounds).
- Stamina to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Comfortable working in a golf course environment with uneven terrain and potential hazards.
Working Conditions: The Irrigation Technician primarily works outdoors on the golf course, with exposure to various weather conditions and terrain. The position may require occasional weekend, holiday, or early morning work hours to accommodate maintenance schedules and special events.
