Position Overview
Serenity Mesa Recovery Center is an adolescent sober living and recovery center in Albuquerque, NM, under the ownership and direction of Healing Addiction in our Community (HAC), a New Mexico non-profit corporation. Residents enter this program after completing drug rehabilitation and/or detoxification, for the purpose of ongoing recovery and transitional services.
Working as a member of the Clinical staff, a Substance Use Clinician’s primary job is to provide Intensive Outpatient therapy (individual and group), family therapy, assist in treatment planning with clients of Serenity Mesa, and function on interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care. Additionally, Clinician’s must ensure resident notes are submitted in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system appropriately and in a timely manner to meet state, city, and county contracts and billing guidelines.
Essential Job Functions:
- The Substance Use Clinician will conduct Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) in an individual and group setting. Substance Use Clinician will be primarily responsible for running IOP groups and ensuring all clients are attending at least six hours of group per week. IOP will be provided at Serenity Mesa and Outpatient services at The Village, as needed.
- Facilitate individual clinical therapy sessions with each assigned resident once per week.
- Be able to carry and manage scheduling for a case load of 7-10 residents.
- The Substance Use Clinician will provide input into treatment plans and help establish SMART goals with clients and/or residents to promote mental health and recovery. The Substance Use Clinician will ensure that treatment is focused on their individualized goals and the action plan to reach goals through regular consultation, intervention, and review of treatment plans.
- The Substance Use Clinician will conduct ASAM Admissions Interviews prior to intake and complete Comprehensive Assessments with Mental Health screeners within ten days of client intake.
- The Substance Use Clinician works directly with Case Management in conjunction to promote growth with the service and treatment plans.
- The Substance Use Clinician will update and produce treatment plans to the Clinical Director monthly. The first treatment plan is due within 30 days of intake.
- The Substance Use Clinician will conduct family therapy sessions, as needed and requested by client.
- The Substance Use Clinician ensures that all documentation for each client is accurate and current in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system appropriately and in a timely manner to meet state, city, and county contracts and billing guidelines.
- The Substance Use Clinician will utilize the Seven Challenges decision making model in individual and group settings.
- The Substance Use Clinician is responsible for working with other internal and external supports to ensure the client is meeting goals and objectives of their treatment plan (education, community service, etc.
Non-essential Job Functions
- Work directly with Clinical Director and Executive Director to ensure all essential duties are covered when someone is absent.
- Answering phones and email when needed.
- Provide transportation to residents when needed.
- Work with insurance companies and Medicaid for documentation needs.
- Cover additional shifts and provide coverage for other positions when necessary.
- Essential Requirements (Education, Licensing, Experience)
- Master's degree in counseling, Social Work, or directly related Field; at least 1 year of directly related experience which may include internship and/or practicum desired.
- NM licensure as LPCC, LPC, LMHC, LMSW, LCSW, LDAC or equivalent level, OR licensed out of state and eligible for NM licensure required.
- Ability to be insured, if required
- Minimum 2-5 years providing clinical treatment services, preferably working with adolescent substance users desired.
- Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team and running groups.
- Experience integrating work with primary care services.
- Language specified, if required: Bilingual a plus (Spanish/ English)
- Experience using The Seven Challenges treatment programming model desired.
- Experience working in a school setting or in a school-based health center setting (a school-based health center is a health center, or a health clinic located on the campus of a middle or high school)

Work Environment
The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled residential facility. The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, physicians, clients, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public on a regular basis. The position may occasionally cause exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids and other conditions common to a residential environment.
