About the Role
The Business Office Support Specialist supports the financial operations of our outpatient substance use disorder treatment clinic by verifying insurance benefits, maintaining accurate patient accounts, and assisting with billing and collections. This role works closely with Admissions, outpatient offices, and the Business Office to ensure accurate documentation, compliance, and positive patient financial experiences.
What You'll Do
Verify insurance benefits and document findings accurately
Set up and maintain patient accounts and Time of Admission data
Calculate estimated patient balances and prepare balance letters
Review financial obligations with patients and assist with payment plans
Process payments, patient statements, and finance charges
Monitor outpatient aging reports and support resolution of outstanding balances
Assist with collections, account audits, write-offs, and reporting
Provide customer service support for billing inquiries and outpatient offices
Maintain accurate financial records and scan/file documents
Provide backup coverage during staff absences
What We're Looking For
High school diploma or equivalent, required
2 years of experience in medical billing, insurance verification, or collections
Strong attention to detail and math skills; 10-key experience preferred
Knowledge of federal and state debt collection laws
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Experience with Sigmund and Docuware preferred
Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle confidential financial and patient information
Ability to pass a background check and drug screen (Serenity Lane is a Cannabis THC-free workplace)
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a computer workstation.
Occasional lifting or moving of objects up to 10 lbs.
Frequent hand and wrist motions (typing, filing, etc.).
Continuous communication with staff, patients, and external partners.
