Position Overview
The Hospice Chaplain provides spiritual care and emotional support to patients, families, and caregivers. This role is essential in helping individuals navigate the end-of-life journey with peace, dignity, and comfort, regardless of faith tradition or belief system.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct spiritual assessments and provide timely, appropriate services to patients and families.
- Offer direct spiritual counseling and support in alignment with patient and family preferences.
- Serve as a liaison to community clergy and spiritual counselors.
- Document all spiritual care services and maintain records for quality assurance and program development.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, offering insight and guidance on spiritual care needs.
- Provide or coordinate funeral and memorial services upon request.
- Organize periodic memorial services for staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Educate and support hospice staff on spiritual care principles and practices.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology (BD, MDiv, or equivalent preferred).
- Experience providing spiritual care in hospice or end-of-life settings.
- Comfort working in interfaith and multicultural environments.
- Ability to support individuals with diverse lifestyles, beliefs, and values.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills within interdisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of hospice philosophy and the emotional needs of the terminally ill.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance.
