Position Overview
The Staff Accountant plays a key role within the Finance and Accounting team, supporting accurate and timely financial reporting. This position is responsible for preparing financial statements, maintaining general ledger accounts, reconciling accounts, and contributing to month-end and year-end closing activities. The role ensures compliance with GAAP standards, supports audits and internal controls, and provides essential financial data to guide company operations. By maintaining accurate records and collaborating across departments, the Staff Accountant helps ensure the integrity of the organization’s financial processes and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain general ledger entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions as needed.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with payroll journal entries and related reconciliations.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including accruals, journal entries, and reporting.
- Prepare schedules for audits and assist external auditors as required.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
- Provide support for budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience (public accounting or corporate environment preferred).
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles.
- Proficiency with accounting software with QuickBooks.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain in a stationary position (e.g., at a desk, computer workstation) for extended periods of time.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and handling documents.
- Ability to visually review and analyze financial data on computer screens and paper reports.
- Occasional need to move about the office, attend meetings, and access file storage areas.
- May occasionally need to lift or carry office supplies, files, or equipment (typically up to 20 lbs).
