Job Title: Environmental, Health, and Safety
Job Classification: Specialist
Reports to: Environmental, Health, and Safety Supervisor/Human Resources Manager
Org Unit: Human Resources
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with maintaining EHS programs and documentation
- Support implementation of:
- ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS)
- ISO 45001 Safety Management System (SMS)
- Help organize documents, records, and files for audits and inspections
- Assist with internal audits and follow-up activities
- Assist in maintaining compliance with:
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM)
- Conduct routine safety inspections and report hazards to supervision
- Assist in identifying unsafe conditions and following up on corrective actions
- Support basic Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and risk assessments
- Assist with proper labeling, storage, and inspection of hazardous waste
- Help maintain hazardous material and waste inventories
- Support Hazard Communication (“Right-to-Know”) activities
- Assist during spill response or emergency situations as directed
- Assist with EHS training programs (PPE, safety procedures, etc.)
- Help coordinate new hire safety orientation
- Support safety awareness activities and employee engagement initiatives
- Track basic EHS data such as inspections, incidents, and training records
- Assist with tracking environmental metrics (waste, energy, emissions)
- Help maintain accurate records for compliance and reporting purposes
- Assist in maintaining emergency response plans and procedures
- Support emergency drills and preparedness activities
- Perform routine checks of fire extinguishers and emergency equipment
- Provide administrative support for EHS programs and documentation
- Assist Human Resources with:
- Recordkeeping and HRIS updates
- Safety-related documentation
- Policy communication
- Support general EHS-related tasks as assigned
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Basic understanding of workplace safety and environmental concepts
- Willingness to learn OSHA, EPA, ADEM, and RCRA requirements
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
Education/Training:
- High school diploma or Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s preferred (EHS or related field)
- 0–2 years of experience in EHS, manufacturing, or related field
- OSHA 10-Hour (or willingness to obtain)
