Position Summary
Queens Community House is seeking a dynamic and community-driven Teen Outreach Coordinator for our Pomonok Community Center. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate youth development professional who enjoys mentoring young people and creating engaging opportunities for teens to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
The ideal candidate understands youth culture, is engaging and relationship-oriented, and is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for youth ages 13–21.
The Teen Outreach Coordinator will oversee enrichment programming, sports and recreation activities, career exploration, leadership development, and community service opportunities while supervising program staff and interns. The Coordinator will work from a strengths-based youth development perspective to help participants build confidence, leadership skills, and positive connections within their community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Supervision
- Oversee and support Activity Specialists and Program Interns in the implementation of program activities
- Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for participants
- Ensure staff understand and follow all program expectations and policies
- Monitor and ensure timely submission of all required program documentation, including participant attendance, monthly narratives, outreach tracking, and timesheets
Youth Development
- Plan and implement engaging enrichment activities, including sports, games, literacy, arts and crafts, and theatre
- Encourage positive youth engagement by modeling appropriate behavior and responsible decision-making
- Support participants in developing social-emotional learning and self-advocacy skills
- Foster youth leadership, teamwork, and community involvement
Leadership & Communication
- Demonstrate professional and effective communication with participants, families, staff, and community stakeholders
- Build strong relationships with youth, instructors, Activity Specialists, and parents
- Promote a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment that embraces diversity
- Participate in and support staff training and professional development opportunities related to child and youth development best practices
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree required
- One year of after-school experience, one full summer camp experience, or two years of related experience required
- Ability to work effectively with diverse youth populations and community stakeholders
- Must be cleared and maintain clearance throughout employment through:
- NYS DOH and DOE fingerprinting
- NYS Central Registry Background Check
- Three reference checks
- Staff Exclusion List (SEL) clearance
- Medical clearance with updated TB test results
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Strong youth engagement and leadership skills
