Role and Responsibilities
Responsible for the negotiation and monitoring of vendor supply contracts focused on supplier quality, competitive pricing, and satisfactory lead times. In addition, the strategic buyer will support the new product introduction process in managing supplier RFQ/RFP and initial procurement for prototyping. Process Owner for all purchasing activity – raw materials, subcontracted processes, equipment, manufacturing consumables, contractors, office supplies.
· Strategic Buying
· Establish and accomplish a Strategic Procurement Strategy with the following goals based on product category and/or commodity:
o cost reductions
o lead time reduction
o scrap reduction for subcontracted processes
· Establish and maintain KPI’s and procurement reports to demonstrate effectiveness of the Strategic Procurement Strategy
· Participate in Quarterly Management Reviews
· Analyze MRP forecasts and usage, applying thorough knowledge of the company’s products and business objectives for sound procurement decisions that consider risk, quality, and lead time in addition to price
· Establish optimized metal bar sizes based on analysis of historical data and collaboration with manufacturing
· Optimize the use/scrap of remnant bars
· Streamline and simplify the purchasing portion of Estimating and Quoting customer jobs
· Supplier Development
· Ownership of Supplier Relationships and Supplier Selection Process
· Regularly visit suppliers to stay abreast of their processes, capabilities, and limitations
· Maintain partnerships with key suppliers through regular communication of schedules and capacity building
· Develop and negotiate product and supplier specific long-term agreements and supply contracts with the goals of reducing costs and lead times
· Establish and maintain supplier ABC classification
· Solicit quarterly performance evaluations to all suppliers
· Issue and manage supplier SCAR’s (Supplier Corrective Action Request)
· Supplier reduction
· AS9100 QMS
· Participate in writing the purchasing work instructions and departmental procedures to support AS9100 QMS
· Maintain appropriate documentation for audit and control procedures, in addition to timely and accurately, update purchasing records and data
· Serve as an AS9100 internal auditor
· Procurement
· Establish and maintain min/max inventory levels in MRP system
· Purchase inventory items to maintain sufficient inventory levels for JIT and MRP inventory control processes
· Communicate with stakeholders to gather current requirements and specifications to be used within an RFI, RFQ, or RFP
· Expedite and administer complex arrangements for logistics
· Actively work to resolve constraints in our supply chain that impact availability
· Develop purchasing strategy to eliminate single sourced scenarios of critical components
· Diversify commodity spend that result in a more balance distribution between suppliers
· Maintain the Approved Supplier List. Work with the Quality and Planning departments to qualify and approve additional suppliers to support greater capabilities and capacity in the supply base
· Resolve purchase price and quantity variances
· Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education & Experience
· 4-year degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or similar purchasing major
· MBA preferred
· A blend of business acumen, strategic insight and technical knowledge driving a big-picture vision with day-to-day practical capabilities to bring the strategic vision to reality
· Experience in a manufacturing environment managing metals supply partners and metals subcontracted process partners like anodizing, passivating, plating, polishing, chem film, LPI, etc.
· Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a procurement related role
· Proficiency analyzing large amounts of data and distilling information into relevant business proposals
· Organizational and leadership abilities
· Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
· Ability to read and understand detailed drawings and requirements
· Proficient knowledge of ERP system
· Excellent communication skills
· Problem-solving aptitude and creative thinking ability
· Team player who can build relationships at all levels of the business

Pay: $63,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
