What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Department Routing Specialist position at Seneca Valley School District?
The Seneca Valley School District is seeking an individual with excellent interpersonal skills to assist the Director of Transportation and support the safe and efficient transport of students. This is a permanent 12-month position, 244 workdays per year.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of Associate's Degree required.
- Prior experience in school operations strongly preferred
- Proficient in transportation routing software, GPS systems, and Microsoft Office (or ability to learn quickly)
- CDL/S endorsement (or willing to obtain)
Responsibilities
- Supervises the placement of students in the District’s routing software.
- Manages the communication of student bus information and maintains accurate transportation records, including processing of bus information for new student enrollment and address changes.
- Develops parcel and street information for new construction developments in the District’s routing software.
- Manages field trip requests.
- Tracks bus listings and creates spreadsheet for State Reports.
- Maintains school calendars in the District’s routing software.
- Manages bus drivers’ personnel files.
- Manages time adjustments on route sheets to ensure accurate pick-up and drop-off schedules.
- Supervises garage managers working for contractors to ensure required records are submitted to District.
- Oversees current transportation records and policies to ensure compliance with state laws and regulations.
- Manages, collects, verifies, and processes: student data, transportation files, bus stop information, and route files.
- Prepares and maintains all required transportation reports and files.
Work Environment:
- Typical office environment with frequent radio and phone communication
- Occasional field visits to garage, bus stops, and schools
- Must be available during early mornings, late afternoons and in emergency situations
- Must be comfortable driving on roads in inclement weather to assess road safety and assist director and superintendent in determining school delays and closures
