The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the full project lifecycle, including system design, PLC and HMI programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and long-term system reliability improvements. Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, test, and commission PLC-based control systems
- Develop and maintain HMI applications (FactoryTalk SE/ME, Wonderware, Ignition)
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and process control issues
- Execute advanced troubleshooting to improve system reliability and performance
- Specify, order, and manage materials and components for automation projects
- Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and customers to deliver high-quality solutions
- Communicate directly with customers to guide system upgrades and improvements
- Plan and support preventative maintenance activities
- Support automation network design and industrial communication protocols
- Maintain compliance with company quality standards, safety policies, and OSHA requirements
- Travel to project sites as needed (per diem provided for overnight travel)
- 5–10 years of experience with Rockwell Automation control platforms
- Strong PLC programming skills (Rockwell Logix / RS5000 / RS500)
- Experience with process control and logic controller systems
- Proven expertise in industrial HMI development
- Knowledge of automation networking, system architecture, and communication protocols
- Cisco / Stratix industrial networking experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent hands-on experience
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent customer-facing and interpersonal skills
- Proficient with email, spreadsheets, and learning internal systems
- Leadership or mentoring experience is a plus
