Position Title: Business Unit Financial Analyst

Location: Fairfax County, VA (Hybrid)

Training Schedule: Onsite all days for first few weeks while training

Clearance Requirements: None

Position Status: Contract to Hire

Pay Rate: $40 - $46 per hour

Position Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Business Unit Financial Analyst to provide financial planning, analysis, and operational support within a fast-paced technology and operations environment. This role partners closely with business stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliant budget management, and effective decision-making aligned with GAAP standards and internal financial policies.

The ideal candidate is analytical, collaborative, and solutions-driven, with strong experience in financial analysis, budget management, Oracle ERP systems, and transaction classification. This position offers an opportunity to work cross-functionally while contributing to process improvements and financial transparency across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and monitor operating and capital budgets to ensure proper allocation and compliance with financial policies and accounting standards.
• Review requisitions and financial documentation for accuracy, appropriate coding, and correct capital vs. expense classification.
• Process and track requisitions, purchase orders, and financial transactions using Oracle ERP and related financial systems.
• Perform variance analysis and provide clear financial insights and reporting to stakeholders.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation supporting financial reviews and transaction decisions.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to provide financial guidance and resolve budget or procurement-related inquiries.
• Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements that enhance financial operations and reporting accuracy.
• Support financial compliance initiatives and promote best practices across teams.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and financial transaction workflows.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis.
• Experience analyzing budgets, general ledger accounts, and financial classifications.
• Demonstrated ability to distinguish and apply correct GL account treatment and financial categorization.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Experience working across multiple systems and quickly learning new financial tools.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Oracle ERP (Procurement or Financial modules).
• Knowledge of capital vs. expense accounting treatment within enterprise environments.
• Familiarity with Apptio or Technology Business Management (TBM) tools.
• Experience supporting technology, IT, or operational business units.
• Background in general ledger accounting, journal entries, or chart of accounts management.
