Incumbent is responsible for aiding in clinical and administrative duties within the medical unit.
General Responsibilities
- Assists in patient care by updating medical history to include medications and allergies, taking vital signs, preparing and maintaining examination areas, and perform various medical testing (EKG/orthostatic BP) and phlebotomy duties.
- Prepares patients for, and assists providers and nurses with, examinations and procedures related to direct patient care.
- Works with care teams to ensure patient records are accurate, up to date, and information is documented appropriately. Proactively reviews patient rosters to keep abreast of updates, and inform care team of any changes.
- Obtains pertinent clinical data from patients. Records information accurately into the electronic health record. Assists in scheduling and tracking of patient appointments.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with Seneca Nation Health System (SNHS) standards. Particular emphasis on therapeutic communication both in person and over the phone.
- Performs general inventory and medical office duties.
- Responsible for all general maintenance, housekeeping, material stocking, and cleaning as needed in order to maintain a clean and sanitary workplace for the delivery of patient care.
- Promotes a cooperative and cohesive workplace environment to maintain high quality services to patients.
- Provides culturally sensitive care for patients of all ages. Responsible to handle appropriately any/all communications necessary for patient care, both incoming and outgoing.
- Participates and promotes PCMH guidelines and procedures. Responsible for any/all electronic health record functions and duties required for patient care.
- Upholds and promotes the value and integrity of the SNHS mission statement. Will promote SNHS in a positive manner.
- Provides care through a trauma-informed lens by incorporating key principles of both physical and psychological environment safety, trustworthiness and transparency, collaboration of decision-making during treatment plan developments, empowerment of patients by recognizing and building upon individual strengths, as well as recognizing and respecting the diversity of cultural backgrounds and sensitivity.
- Attends all mandatory staff meetings and in-services.
- Documents all patient contact and care according to the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974.
- Follows all policies and procedures of the department, Seneca Nation, and SNHS.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

- The physical stamina to stand for long periods
- Must possess and maintain a current Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA/CMA/RMA).
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience required.
- Current CPR/BLS required.
- Experience in a large hospital, academic medical center, outpatient health care setting, or Indian Health Service (IHS)/tribal health, preferred.
