The Library Public Services Assistant assists students, faculty, staff, and the community at the library’s information services desk and online. Loans and discharges materials by following established library procedures.

$16.51 hourly up to 26 hours per week.
Conditions of Employment
Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted for all new employees, and for rehired employees who have had a break in service for one year or more. The Office of Human Resources will determine which background checks shall be conducted for each position, based upon its review of job descriptions and the responsibilities of the position. These include, but are not limited to, positions that have access to money, master keys, security-sensitive areas and confidential information; positions that have the capability to create, delete, and alter records; and positions that are responsible for the care and instruction of children. The College will conduct various types of background checks which may include, but are not limited to: criminal background, credit check, driver's license check, previous employment and references.

DESCRIPTION

Essential Functions
- Greets and welcomes in person and online library patrons and provides information/referrals to College resources and other departments.
- Loans and discharges materials by following established library procedures.
- Collects, organizes, prepares, and shelves materials to be returned to the shelves using the Library of Congress (LC) classification system.
- Processes intra-library loan requests.
- Responds to inquiries regarding computer lab workstations and copying/printing/scanning machines.
- Monitors and tracks the usage of the library’s physical spaces.
- Processes incoming materials and prepares them for shelving.
- Assists in the selection of recreational materials, the coordination of on-campus and online library events and programs
- Participates in library shared governance team to evaluate and improve library services.
- Opens and/or closes the library operations and building.
- Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- One year library or related customer service experience.
- Associate degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
- Knowledge, ability, and skill to work with an alpha-numeric arrangement as used in a library setting.
- Knowledge of basic library services, functions, and resources.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to local, state, and national standards for library processes and procedures.
- Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to become proficient in MS Teams.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Committed to working in a multi-cultural environment.
- Ability to effectively interact with other staff, to work independently and as a team member, with attention to detail, focus, and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate and listen effectively and positively in written, verbal, face-to-face and online venues.

- Requires the ability to push, pull book carts; bend, stoop, kneel and reach; and climb on low stool to reach six-foot high shelving; and ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted.
- Flexible work hours, including evening and weekends.
