Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION:

The part-time Laboratory Manager, Engineering Technology, assists the instructional staff of the Engineering Technology department. Maintains a properly equipped laboratory environment focused on instruction, compliance, and safety of all laboratory faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains and makes available SDSs (Safety Data Sheets) and other required safety manuals and plans.
  • Develops and oversees campus-specific laboratory safety procedures and actions to be taken against accidents both in and around the laboratories.
  • Ensures the proper storage, use, treatment, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Coordinates purchasing, receiving, storage, distribution, repair and inventories of campus-specific department supplies and equipment within approved budget.
  • Prepares and provides all materials necessary for laboratory courses. Ensures all materials are provided within time requirements and all equipment is in proper working order.
  • Works closely with faculty, staff, and suppliers to meet the needs of the laboratories.
  • Provides non-instructional laboratory assistance to instructional personnel and assists instructors in preparation of demonstrations, experiments, and instruction materials.
  • Trains faculty and work-study students in the use of current and new equipment, materials and procedures.
  • Assists faculty in facilitating independent research and directed student research.
  • Assists deans in communications with adjunct faculty.
  • Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited institution with at least 16 credit hours of coursework in a related field.


Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
  • Three years of experience working in a laboratory setting.
  • One year of experience using Microsoft Office software.

  • Ability to anticipate laboratory needs and allocate time according to laboratory needs.
  • Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and remain current with new laboratory procedures and methods.
  • Ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, and students and assist or instruct them on the use of laboratory software/hardware platforms.
  • Ability to adapt to changing workloads, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to independently manage a college laboratory and work without direct supervision.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of OSHA laboratory standards and maintenance of all necessary certifications.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Committed to working in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.


WORK ENVIRONMENT And SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Works in office, classroom, laboratory, and field environments.
  • Works flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • May work with hazardous chemicals, materials, living and preserved plant and animal specimens, waste products, pressurized systems, and mechanical instruments.
  • May be required to travel to and from College campuses and other local destinations.
  • Work sometimes requires lifting, moving and pushing up to 55 pounds.

Pay Benefits And Work Schedule

$21.66 hourly up to 26 hours per week.

Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Floridaat the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted for all new employees, and for rehired employees who have had a break in service for one year or more. The Office of Human Resources will determine which background checks shall be conducted for each position, based upon its review of job descriptions and the responsibilities of the position. These include, but are not limited to, positions that have access to money, master keys, security-sensitive areas and confidential information; positions that have the capability to create, delete, and alter records; and positions that are responsible for the care and instruction of children.
