Responsibilities

The Associate Director, Academic Innovation and Strategy leads academic initiatives that enhance teaching, learning, and student success. This role drives innovation and program development through strategic planning, faculty support, and cross-departmental collaboration. Oversees workforce initiatives, grant coordination, and student support while fostering partnerships and aligning programs with institutional and labor market needs.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements comprehensive strategies for academic innovation aligned with institutional goals, monitors emerging trends in higher education to guide strategic planning, and establishes evaluation frameworks and metrics to assess outcomes.
  • Manages and trains staff in the use of academic tools such as the Watermark Faculty Success portal. Facilitates workshops, seminars, and communities of practice to promote faculty development and innovation.

  • Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution
    • Four (4) years of full-time experience in educational setting, instructional technology, curriculum development, or a related field.
    • Two (2) years in a leadership role focused on academic innovation or strategy.


    Desired Qualifications

    • Master’s degree or higher from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
    • Two (2) years of experience in using PeopleSoft Academic systems (schedule of classes, room management, course catalog, faculty workload modules).

    • Skilled in analyzing and re-engineering operations and procedures and in developing and implementing new ones.
    • Knowledge of applications of computer-based systems, especially college operating systems.
    • Ability to analyze complex organizational and administrative problems, to interpret operational needs, and to develop appropriate, integrated, and creative solutions in a timely manner.
    • Ability to balance the planning, organization, and management of multiple projects, simultaneously, work under time constraints and meet strict deadlines.
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to train and supervise employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments for oneself and others.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team of faculty, staff, and administrators within a diverse community.
    • Skilled working in an atmosphere of collegial decision-making, demonstrating consensus-building skills.
    • Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
    • Commitment to working in a multicultural environment.

    Conditions of Employment

    Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted for all new employees, and for rehired employees who have had a break in service for one year or more. The Office of Human Resources will determine which background checks shall be conducted for each position, based upon its review of job descriptions and the responsibilities of the position. These include, but are not limited to, positions that have access to money, master keys, security-sensitive areas and confidential information; positions that have the capability to create, delete, and alter records; and positions that are responsible for the care and instruction of children.
