This is a flat rate role, with pay ranging from $40 to $49 per booking hour, plus incentive-based pay for any booking hours exceeding 40. Final pay rate will be determined based on qualifications, certifications, guild level, and experience.
Summary
The Journeyman Service Technician functions as a skilled-level technician who can perform diagnoses and repairs in all areas, in addition to specializing in particular areas of repair and is responsible for completing all required repairs on customer vehicles. The individual for this role will have extensive training and experience in diagnosis and repair of vehicles in the Audi or Volkswagen brands. The incumbent will possess the general knowledge and understanding of vehicle mechanics and will be able to demonstrate competence in automotive repair. The individual in this role will have successfully completed an apprenticeship program or have equivalent experience and training within the industry. The Service Technician must communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and must be able to comprehend written and oral language. S/He must demonstrate the ability to write reports and simple correspondence as well as apply general knowledge to solve problems that arise.
Task Statements
- Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Diagnoses the cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
- Communicates with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Saves parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicates immediately with the service advisor if additional work is needed, if the outlined work is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Completes the 27-point inspection form and records video for service advisor to share with customers.
- Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
- Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools and events.
- Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
- Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Keeps the shop area neat and clean.
- Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
- Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
- Other tasks as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
- Technical or Trade School degree preferred or minimum of four (4) years of automotive repair experience required
- Technical aptitude displayed by ASE Certification preferred.
- Audi/VW Training
- Experience with CDK preferred
- Must have the ability to operate a wide variety of vehicles, both automatic and manual transmissions
- Must have manual dexterity, good judgement, and ability to operate power and hand tools and other types of machinery safely and efficiently
- Valid Driver's License
