Job Description
SEMCO - Project Design Technician I (Holland, MI)

Under direct supervision, the Project Design Technician I supports the Construction Department with a variety of office and field duties related to construction, project planning, and customer service.
Essential Job Functions
  • Coordinate DIMP, MRP, and PIP programs with Engineering, Operations, and municipalities.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and record work orders and cost estimates.
  • Maintain the Construction Database with current services and projects.
  • Manage customer and contractor inquiries, complaints, and concerns with a high level of courtesy and professionalism.
  • Attend regular and special meetings, training sessions, and departmental events.
  • Stake proposed service and main locations to ensure installations meet company standards.
  • Assist Marketing with project design, probity, and customer inquiries.
  • Collaborate with customers and municipalities to acquire easements, rights-of-way, and permits as required.
  • Support required MPSC inspections.
  • Inspect and audit contractors as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or successful completion GED required.
  • College courses or vocational training in drafting, surveying, electrical circuits/wiring, or other related fields preferred.
  • Valid Michigan Drivers license required.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical principles.
  • Successful completion of Operator Qualifications.

  • Excellent customer service orientation.
  • Proficiency with computer business software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite), and the ability to learn new systems/software as needed.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions with co-workers, customers, and management.
  • Commitment to safety standards, including timely reporting of potential hazards.
  • Adherence to Company policies related to business ethics, compliance, asset use, and applicable laws.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the Company’s Safe Driving Policy.
  • Must be able to walk at least 10 miles per day in all weather conditions.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, crawl, kneel, walk, climb, push, pull, lift and carry 20–50 lbs., twist, reach above/below shoulder level, and perform fine finger movements.
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat.
  • Potential exposure to stinging insects and insecticides.
We offer a competitive hourly rate of $23 to $32 per hour for this role, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. Additionally, we are proud of provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
