The Heavy Haul OTR Driver is responsible for safely loading, securing, transporting, and unloading heavy equipment and machinery to job sites and company locations. This position requires experience hauling heavy and oversized loads, strong knowledge of DOT requirements, and safe operation of lowboy/RGN or similar trailers.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport heavy equipment and machinery between job sites and company locations.
- Safely load, secure, and unload equipment using chains, binders, and proper tie-down procedures.
- Operate lowboy, RGN, flatbed, or similar heavy-haul trailers.
- Plan routes based on load dimensions, weight restrictions, permits, and road limitations.
- Complete pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections.
- Maintain DOT logs, permits, inspection forms, and transport documentation.
- Monitor axle weights and ensure loads meet legal weight and securement requirements.
- Communicate with dispatch and field crews regarding deliveries, delays, and equipment needs.
- Report vehicle, trailer, or equipment issues and coordinate maintenance as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class A CDL.
- Heavy haul/equipment transportation experience required.
- Experience with lowboy and/or RGN trailers.
- Experience transporting oversized and overweight equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, load securement, permits, routing, and axle-weight requirements.
- Ability to safely load and unload heavy construction equipment.
- Acceptable driving record and ability to meet DOT requirements.
