Position Summary
The Director of Finance is responsible for the financial leadership and fiscal integrity of the organization, which operates with programs supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position oversees all financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, payroll, and compliance. The Director of Finance ensures accurate financial management in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable regulations from the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS), the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide strategic financial direction to support the organization’s mission and long-term goals.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director, Assistant Executive Director, and Board of Directors to develop annual budgets and financial plans.
- Prepare and present clear, accurate financial reports and analyses to the Executive Director and Board.
- Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance as well as staff functions.
- Ensure compliance with all fiscal requirements of DHS, IDPH, CMS, and other funding and regulatory bodies.
- Oversee and continuously improve financial systems, software, and procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Provide training and guidance to program directors and managers on financial procedures, budgeting, and compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in nonprofit or healthcare financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and regulatory reporting for state-funded programs (DHS, IDPH, CMS).
- Experience with government contracts, grants management, and multiple revenue streams.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, MIP, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and commitment to the mission of serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Work Environment
This position is based in the administrative office, with occasional travel to program sites as needed. The Director of Finance must be available for periodic meetings with the Executive Director, Board Finance Committee, and auditors.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
