Select Savvy is seeking a skilled and dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) Educational Interpreter for a school-based opportunity in Charleston, South Carolina. In this role, you will provide communication access for students who are deaf or hard of hearing by interpreting spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa. You will work collaboratively with educators, special education teams, and families to support student learning, inclusion, and academic success.

Requirements
- Associate's degree or completion of a Sign Language Interpreter Training Program
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of approximately 3.2–3.5 or higher
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing preferred
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification
- Previous experience in a school or educational setting
- Knowledge of Deaf culture, language development, and educational interpreting best practices
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret spoken instruction, classroom discussions, and school activities into American Sign Language (ASL)
- Interpret student responses from ASL into spoken English for teachers, staff, and peers
- Provide interpretation services during classroom instruction, assemblies, meetings, conferences, and school-related activities
- Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to support student learning and IEP implementation
- Review lesson plans, instructional materials, and classroom content to ensure accurate interpretation
- Adapt interpreting techniques to meet individual student communication needs
- Support students' academic success, language development, and social interaction
- Promote an inclusive and accessible learning environment
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards
- Ensure accurate interpretation of message content, tone, and intent
