What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Select Demo Services?
Under the direct supervision of the Vice President and in accordance with established company policies and procedures, the Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for commercial and residential painting and finishing projects. This role supports projects from preconstruction through bid submission and coordination.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Download construction documents from General Contractor (GC) and client websites and collect all relevant project data to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Review drawings, specifications, and finish schedules related to painting, coatings, and surface preparation.
- Organize and prioritize estimating workload to ensure multiple projects meet required deadlines.
- Prepare detailed and competitive bids by developing labor, material, and equipment cost estimates during the planning and preconstruction phases.
- Analyze project scope, surface conditions, access requirements, and finish systems to determine accurate quantities and production rates.
- Prepare for and participate in pre-bid and post-bid meetings.
- Coordinate awarded projects in accordance with contract documents and defined scope of work.
- Identify, resolve, and communicate scope gaps, discrepancies, and clarifications in an efficient and timely manner.
- Monitor, track, and summarize all GC notifications related to addenda, revisions, and change orders impacting the painting and finishing scope.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal departments, field supervisors, vendors, and customers.
- Maintain confidentiality of all company and project-related information.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, clients, and business partners.
Qualifications
- Estimating experience in painting and finishing or related construction trades preferred.
- Working knowledge of painting systems, coatings, surface preparation methods, and finishing products.
- Proficiency with construction estimating software.
- Working knowledge of large ERP systems; JD Edwards experience preferred.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other construction-related software.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
