Location: Des Moines, IA (Hybrid: 3 days/week on-site)
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead a team responsible for the accounting, reporting, and analysis of a diversified insurance investment portfolio.
- Oversee statutory and GAAP investment accounting across fixed income securities, mortgage loans, private placements, limited partnerships, derivatives, and alternative investments.
- Review investment activity, financial reporting, reconciliations, and accounting controls to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Partner closely with Investments, Treasury, Actuarial, Tax, Finance leadership, and external auditors.
- Support capital planning initiatives and provide analysis to assist management decision-making.
- Drive process improvement, automation, and operational efficiency initiatives across the investment accounting function.
- Research technical accounting matters and evaluate the impact of regulatory and accounting developments.
- Coordinate internal and external audits and assist with regulatory reporting requirements.
- Develop, mentor, and coach a team of investment accounting professionals.
- Manage department priorities and ensure timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting deliverables.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation required or strongly preferred.
- 8 years of accounting experience within the insurance industry.
- Strong knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and GAAP reporting.
- Experience supporting investment accounting and reporting activities.
- Prior leadership, supervisory, or team development experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to partner effectively across multiple business functions and levels of leadership.
Base Salary: $125,000 - $140,000
