- Fundamental Equity Analyst position within the Options / Market Making division of a leading firm
- Team focused on event-driven and special situations investing to inform single-stock options trading
- Role available in Chicago (preferred) or New York
Team Structure
- Equity research function is relatively new and growing
- Currently 5-10 analysts in the US
- Led by global head of eq research.
The Opportunity
- Firm is seeking a senior hire (5-10 years experience) to act as a de facto #2 in the US
- Role will involve:
- Mentoring and training junior analysts
- Helping to shape the research platform as the function scales
- Acting as a leader/point person in global head's absence
- Opportunity to grow into a more formal leadership role over time
Responsibilities
- Conduct fundamental equity research across a generalist, sector-agnostic universe
- Focus on event-driven and special situations opportunities
- Generate actionable investment ideas to inform discretionary options traders
- Partner closely with traders by:
- Sharing research across a group of discretionary single-stock options traders
- Supporting trade idea generation and risk-taking decisions
- Coverage and idea generation are expected to remain flexible rather than from a fixed coverage list
Strategy & Platform
- Research supports single-stock options trading within a market making framework
- Analysts sit within the market making business, but operate with a fundamental, discretionary mindset
- Traders have the ability to deploy capital dynamically based on conviction
- Analysts are compensated similarly to traders, aligning incentives with trading performance
Candidate Profile
- 5 years minimum, ideally 10 years of experience in equity research or investing
- Prior exposure to market making is required (does not need to be current)
- Strong understanding of options theory and derivatives
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, trading-oriented environment
- Demonstrated experience:
- Working on event-driven / catalyst-driven ideas
- Producing actionable, time-sensitive research
- Sector background is flexible (generalist); Healthcare is a plus, but not required
- Strong preference for candidates able to lead, mentor, and develop junior talent
Salary : $200,000 - $1,000,000
