What are the responsibilities and job description for the AI Enablement & Workflow Consultant position at Selby Jennings?
Overview
We are seeking an AI Enablement & Workflow Consultant to support a New York-based hedge fund on a 6‑month engagement. This role is focused on helping teams across the business adopt and use AI tools effectively in their day‑to‑day work, rather than building AI platforms or models from scratch.
The successful candidate will work closely with back‑office and operational teams (including HR, Accounting, Operations, Legal, and Compliance) to understand their workflows, identify pain points, and help them apply AI tools in practical, compliant, and human‑centred ways.
This is a high‑EQ, highly interactive role. Success will be measured by the quality of engagement and the tangible improvements individuals experience in how they work.
Key Responsibilities
- Sit directly with individuals and teams to understand day‑to‑day workflows and pain points
- Identify opportunities where AI tools can improve efficiency, clarity, or quality of work
- Help users adopt and apply approved AI tools (e.g. frontier models, co‑pilot style tools) as confident, effective users
- Design and demonstrate simple, practical AI‑assisted workflows (prompting, agents, automation, documentation, analysis)
- Explain AI concepts clearly to people with very different levels of technical ability
- Act as a trusted, approachable partner who helps teams experiment safely within established AI compliance and governance policies
- Collaborate with internal developers where light integration or automation is required (without owning core development)
- Advise when AI is not the right solution and recommend alternative process improvements
- Contribute to a culture of responsible, pragmatic AI adoption across the firm
What Success Looks Like
- Individuals leave sessions saying "that was extremely useful"
- Teams feel more confident and capable using AI tools independently
- Manual, repetitive, or unclear workflows are noticeably improved
- AI adoption increases without adding complexity or risk
- Stakeholders feel supported, not overwhelmed or intimidated
Required Experience & Profile
- Strong background as a business‑facing technologist, consultant, business analyst, or AI enablement specialist
- Hands‑on experience using modern AI tools (LLMs, co‑pilot tools, AI assistants) in real workflows
- Comfortable configuring, testing, and implementing AI‑assisted processes as a power user
- Able to discuss technical concepts and integrations at a high level (without needing to code full solutions)
- Excellent communication skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence
- Proven ability to engage confidently with non‑technical stakeholders
- Pragmatic, solutions‑oriented mindset with strong judgement
Nice to Have
- Experience delivering AI training, enablement, or adoption programmes
- Background in business analysis, digital transformation, or operational consulting
- Exposure to financial services or regulated environments
- Experience working within defined AI compliance or governance frameworks
