As a bilingual Hebrew-English school, we proudly serve over 280 students from Pre-K3 through 5th grade in the heart of DC.

The Role

As an Special Education Teacher, you will serve as a case manager and teacher within our 50/50 immersion model. You will work jointly with the English and Hebrew language teachers to support students with disabilities. You will be conducting push-in and pull-out lessons as well as co-teaching classes. In addition, you will write IEPs and lead IEP meetings. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in ELA and math to our students with disabilities, ensuring a seamless dual language experience for our diverse student body.

Key Responsibilities
  • Case Management Excellence: Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Coordinate and facilitate multidisciplinary IEP meetings with families, clinicians, and administrators.

  • Dual Language Instructional Support: Design specialized lesson plans that adapt Common Core standards for students with diverse needs, specifically navigating the cognitive demands of a dual-language environment.

  • Data-Driven Advocacy: Regularly analyze progress monitoring data to tailor interventions. Use data to advocate for student needs during IEP meetings.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner closely with Hebrew immersion teachers and English-language teachers to "bridge" content, ensuring that accommodations are effectively implemented across the day.

  • Compliance & Integrity: Maintain meticulous records in accordance with IDEA, FERPA, and DC local policies, ensuring all timelines for evaluations and annual reviews are met.

Instruction and Curriculum
  • Plan and deliver specially designed instruction (SDI) in ELA and Math, aligned with student IEP goals.

  • Modify and adapt grade-level curricula to ensure rigor is maintained while removing barriers to access.

  • Utilize a variety of research-based interventions to support foundational skill gaps.

  • Work with Hebrew co-teachers to develop visual aids, scaffolds, and modified vocabulary lists to support students during Hebrew-immersion blocks.

Classroom Environment and Student Engagement
  • Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and restorative justice practices tailored to students’ individual behavioral intervention plans (BIPs).

  • Foster student self-advocacy, helping learners understand their own profiles and the "superpowers" of their neurodiversity.

Family Engagement and Communication
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families of students with IEPs, providing regular updates on goal progress.

  • Empower families by demystifying the special education process and providing strategies for home-based support in a bilingual context.

  • Collaborate with external providers (OTs, SLPs, Psychologists) to ensure a holistic approach to student development.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Expertise: Deep subject-matter knowledge; ideally a major/minor or graduate degree in Education or a core content area. A teaching license is preferred but not required.
  • Experience: At least two years of elementary teaching experience with a proven track record of student growth.
