CNC Machinist (Setup Level) – Aerospace Manufacturing
Position Summary:
The Setup-Level CNC Machinist is responsible for preparing, setting up, and operating CNC machines to manufacture precision aerospace components. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, blueprint reading, and quality standards to ensure all parts meet strict aerospace tolerances and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up CNC machines (mills, lathes, or multi-axis equipment) for production runs, including loading programs, tooling, and fixtures
- Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and engineering specifications to ensure accurate part production
- Perform first-piece inspections and in-process checks using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)
- Make offsets and minor program adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools, inserts, and fixtures based on material and job requirements
- Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot issues related to tooling, setup, or program inconsistencies
- Maintain compliance with aerospace quality standards and procedures (e.g., AS9100 requirements)
- Document inspection results and production data accurately
- Work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to optimize machining processes
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company and OSHA standards
Qualifications:
- 3–7 years of CNC machining experience, with proven setup experience
- Strong knowledge of CNC controls (Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T
- Experience machining aerospace materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and Inconel
- Proficient with precision measuring tools and inspection techniques
- Understanding of feeds, speeds, tooling, and cutting strategies
- Basic G-code knowledge and ability to make minor edits
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
