Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Accountant – Grants & Operations to join our team at an exciting stage of growth. This role is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic, mission-driven environment and takes pride in accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of SECORE’s financial operations, with a strong focus on grant tracking, multi-entity accounting, and month-end close. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role responsible for maintaining accurate, audit-ready financial records while partnering across departments to support financial clarity and compliance.
In addition to core accounting responsibilities, this role will support select operational and systems-related initiatives that strengthen financial processes and improve organizational efficiency. The ideal candidate is proactive, communicates clearly, and is comfortable working across teams in a global environment.
This position reports directly to the Director of Administration.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a brief technical and problem-solving exercise discussion-style via zoom with the Director of Administration to demonstrate skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations- Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of transactions across multiple entities, currencies, and funding sources
- Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation
- Identify discrepancies and proactively resolve issues to ensure data integrity
- Track grant budgets against actual expenditures and ensure accurate allocation of expenses
- Prepare grant invoices, reimbursement requests, and supporting financial documentation
- Monitor incoming grant funds and reconcile to accounting records
- Support preparation of financial reports for funders in coordination with development and program teams
- Serve as a finance liaison to internal teams to ensure proper coding and compliance with grant requirements
- Lead and own the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations
- Prepare internal financial reports, schedules, and supporting analysis
- Assist with audit preparation and year-end close activities and 990 preparation
- Support ongoing use and optimization of Sage Intacct
- Maintain and improve accounting workflows, documentation, and internal controls
- Partner with the Director of Administration on process improvements and system enhancements
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives that strengthen financial processes and coordination across teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience
- Advanced experience with Sage Intacct
- 5 years of not for profit accounting experience
- Demonstrated experience with grant accounting and fund tracking
- Strong understanding of GAAP, with experience applying nonprofit accounting standards (ASC 958 preferred)
- Experience in multi-currency, or international environments (a plus)
- Advanced Excel skills, with ability to manage and analyze financial data
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and accountability
- Clear and proactive communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments
- Data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Project and collaboration tools (e.g., Asana, Google Workspace)
- CRM platforms (e.g., Givebutter, DonorPerfect)
- Payroll systems (e.g., ADP)
