Job Summary
The Delivery Driver supports food distribution and logistics operations throughout Florida Gateway Food Bank's service area by safely transporting food products, supplies, and equipment to partner agencies, distribution sites, donors, and program locations. As an employee of Second Harvest of the Big Bend (SHBB) and a member of the Operations team, the Delivery Driver works onsite at Florida Gateway Food Bank and collaborates closely with both organizations to maintain efficient transportation and warehouse operations. The position ensures the safe handling and delivery of product while maintaining compliance with all applicable transportation, food safety, and regulatory standards. The Delivery Driver receives day to day task supervision from Florida Gateway Food Bank leadership and participates in ongoing training and coordination with SHBB Operations staff. The position supports the missions of both organizations by expanding access to nutritious food throughout rural and underserved communities.
This position is based out of Florida Gateway Food Bank at 553 NW Railroad St, Lake City, FL 32055. This is a time-limited position, beginning upon completion of the hiring process, and concluding on June 30, 2027. This position is funded through a grant. Continued employment is contingent upon availability of grant funding.
Position Responsibilities
- Safely operate and maintain company vehicles in compliance with state, USDOT, and highway safety regulations.
- Complete assigned delivery and pickup routes accurately and efficiently and check calls at each stop.
- Complete all assignments in such a way as to maintain the integrity of products through proper inspection, handling and storage procedures.
- Inspect all products to be picked up and complete the Driver Inspection Report for every load transported.
- Load and unload vehicles and operate in a safe manner at all times.
- Always transport food products under proper Food Safety protocols; including perishable product at proper temperatures.
- Assist in inventory control, pulling orders and warehouse maintenance
- Establish rapport with representatives of food donors and vendors.
- Assist with weighing products, loading and unloading at warehouses.
- Maintain proper storage separation of food and non-food items
- Continuously check products for expiration dates, any signs of contamination, or other signs of unsafe distribution.
- Communicate suggestions, ideas, improvements and other constructive feedback to management
- Maintenance of correct and updated records of receipts and distribution of product reported to the Warehouse Manager and Product Manager.
- Maintenance of first-in/first-out system, ensuring product safety.
- Active participation in training and educational opportunities pertaining to interest, duties and responsibilities.
- Assist with inventory control, quality control, and other duties ascribed by the Warehouse and Transportation Coordinators.
- Compliance with OSHA, USDA, FL DA & CS, Second Harvest policies and procedures.
- Transport food, supplies, equipment, and other materials throughout FGFB's service area in accordance with established schedules and safety standards.
- Obtain, review, implement, and sign off on those responsibilities pertaining to warehouse practices as outlined by SHBB and any manuals deemed pertinent by supervisor.
- Coordinate with FGFB and SHBB operations staff regarding delivery schedules, inventory needs, route planning, and distribution activities.
- Participate in disaster response activities, emergency food distributions, and special projects as assigned.
- Attend required trainings and operational meetings conducted by SHBB and FGFB.
Required Qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities, competencies)
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Experience with project management, grant-funded initiatives, food distribution operations, logistics, warehouse systems, or community-based program implementation preferred.
3. Ability to evaluate program outcomes and utilize data to drive continuous improvement and reporting.
4. Driver’s license and clean driving record.
5. Ability to organize and prioritize work and tasks.
6. Pleasant, courteous, professional demeanor.
7. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
8. Attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
9. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The ability to learn and use various software programs dealing with databases and inventory systems.
10. Must be self-motivated and work well with people in a team environment, and can manage time and multiple projects.
- Must be flexible with schedule when issues or emergencies arise.
12. Must assist in disaster response (i.e. Hurricanes, floods, pandemics, etc.).
13. Must be able to travel within our 16 counties several times per week[KT1] in personal vehicle if company car is not available.
