What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Scheduler position at Seaview Orthopaedic and Medical Associates?
JOB SUMMARY: The Surgical Scheduler position requires scheduling knowledge to ensure efficient use of providers schedule. The Surgical Scheduler will secure appropriate authorization from patient’s insurance including workers compensation and auto insurance. The Surgical Scheduler requires excellent customer service skills with patients, surgical facilities, employees, and surgeons to ensure an outstanding surgical experience. The Surgical Scheduler must be able to respond to scheduling changes/cancellations in a timely, accurate manner. Individual must be team player, organized, multitasker and be able to manage demanding workload with accuracy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates and schedules surgeries and pre/post-op appointments as designated by physicians.
- Interacts with patients’, physicians and other staff both within the SVO and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information.
- Obtains and documents preadmission testing as per guidelines and routes all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements.
- Obtains and documents authorization for surgeries and everything required for the surgery and immediate post op period
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to urgent/emergent situations
- Identifies scheduling barriers and implements solutions to improve scheduling results.
- Documents work processes in ECW.
- Follows all written protocols and procedures of SVO.
- Demonstrates courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and management.
- Follow established SVO and surgery center/hospital precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment. Adhere to policies regarding safety, confidentiality and HIPPA guidelines
- EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- 1 year surgical scheduling experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Insurance authorization experience
- Orthopedic terminology a plus
