A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Ten (10) years related work experience; Bachelor's degree in health, public administration, social work or related field. Master's Degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work will be considered.

Essential Functions

- Directs the provision of department services as identified, including Health Services, Health Intervention, Elementary Counseling, Family Support, Homelessness, Truancy and Discipline, Child Nutrition.
- Assures services are coordinated with governmental and public agencies, state and private education agencies, community based organizations, district departments, district association partners, and school clusters.
- Provides leadership for Families and Education programs.
- Manages and oversees assigned staff, including supervising and evaluating professional and support staff.
- Assigns, monitors and evaluates work.
- Consults with subordinates on a variety of problems and issues.
- Provides leadership for District health efforts and integrates goals, activities and initiatives into District, division, department, and cluster work plans and accountability structures.
- Provides innovative leadership to transform the provision of health services to meet student, school, and district needs.
- Serves as District liaison to City, County, State, and grant agencies to ensure partnerships to maximize health, prevention and intervention and family support.
- Plans and develops interagency agreements.
- Develops and implements a variety of special projects as requested.
- Performs a variety of public relations and community relations activities.
- Directs the development of departmental and other assigned budgets.
- Ensures that expenditures of approved budget are in conformance with budget allocations, District fiscal procedures and state and federal fund source regulations.
- Directs efforts to identify, secure and manage discretionary grants/funding related to health, truancy, family support, and child nutrition.
- Provides leadership for implementation of the District's strategic plan.
- Oversees project management activities in assigned areas.
- Attends or participates in all required staff and committee meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District or supervisor.
- Makes presentations to School Board.
- Advocates on behalf of services provided for all student to increase attendance and readiness to learn.
- Directs and collaborates with other departmental and division leaders to ensure the development of health and prevention-intervention professional development programs for staff and volunteers
- Participates in ongoing training to further District goals and to enhance personal professional skills.
- Maintains currency on practices and research in assigned areas.
- Maintains state of the art expertise in school district/public organization administration, leadership and service delivery.
- Establishes competency goals for self and staff in areas of assignment and to enhance development of standards for the department.
- Directs the School Threat Assessment Team to ensure effective response at schools facing threats of violence.
- Collaborates with workplace safety agencies such as Washington Risk Management Pool, OSHA/WISHA, and Washington State Labor and Industry.
