Applicants should be flexible in their ability to teach five sections of Upper School Math, ranging from Algebra 1 through Calculus, and including grades 9–12. Upper School Math teachers at Seattle Academy emphasize conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving while fostering confidence, persistence, and curiosity in young learners. Instruction is student-centered and developmentally responsive, balancing academic rigor with strong relational support.

Teaching Responsibilities
- Teach five sections of Upper School math courses ranging from Algebra 1 through Calculus.
- Design and deliver lessons aligned with Upper School math standards and departmental learning goals.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learners and promote deep conceptual understanding.
- Seek opportunities for professional growth and development.
- Incorporate formative and summative assessment practices to provide timely, meaningful feedback.
- Foster a classroom environment that supports risk-taking, collaboration, and growth.
- Collaborate with Upper School colleagues on curriculum development, assessment practices, and student support.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with students, families, and colleagues.
- Participate fully in the life of the Upper School, including advisory, faculty meetings, and community events.
- 3–5 years of Upper School teaching experience preferred.
- Experience teaching a range of upper school math courses.
- Undergraduate degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Strong content knowledge and commitment to effective math pedagogy.
- Evidence of engagement in professional learning (e.g., workshops, conferences, professional learning communities, or coursework) that informs instructional practice.
- A growth mindset with a passion for your subject matter and an engaging learning environment.
- Desire, interest, and enthusiasm for working with upper school-aged students.
- A willingness to incorporate social-emotional learning competencies (social awareness, relationship skills, self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making) into daily instruction.
- Strong organizational and communication abilities.
- Agility, influence, negotiation, and strong judgment & decision making skills.
- Sound judgment, adaptability, and reflective practice.
- Ability to work effectively with all constituent groups - teachers, parents, students, and administrative teams.
- Experience with addressing student behavior with clarity, consistency, and care.
- A creative and imaginative approach to problem-solving.
