Senior Construction Accountant
Buford, GA (with Multi-Office Responsibility)
Full-Time | On-Site | Monday – Friday
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are a well-established, financially strong commercial and industrial contractor with operations spanning multiple states and decades of proven performance. With a team-first culture, a loyal client base of nationally recognized companies, and a leadership team that values its people, this is a rare opportunity to step into a high-impact accounting role with a company that does things right.
We are looking for a Senior Construction Accountant who brings deep general ledger expertise, construction-specific accounting knowledge, and the kind of ownership mentality that makes a real difference. This role supports both our Georgia and Texas offices and reports directly to senior leadership.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
General Ledger & Financial Reporting
- Own the full general ledger — journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements for both office locations
- Maintain balance sheet integrity with thorough account analysis and variance explanations
- Manage intercompany transactions and ensure proper consolidation across entities
- Support external audits and tax preparation with organized, audit-ready workpapers
Job Costing & Work in Progress (WIP)
- Prepare, maintain, and analyze detailed Work in Progress (WIP) schedules on a monthly basis
- Track job costs by project, ensuring labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead are accurately allocated
- Monitor over/under billing positions and collaborate with project managers to ensure accuracy
- Identify cost variances and trends, providing actionable reporting to operations leadership
- Maintain project profitability tracking from contract award through final close-out
AIA Billing & Accounts Receivable
- Prepare and process AIA G702/G703 Applications for Payment in accordance with contract terms
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure billings accurately reflect completed work and stored materials
- Track retainage balances by project and ensure timely release upon project completion
Lien Waivers & Compliance
- Prepare conditional and unconditional lien waivers in compliance with state-specific requirements for Georgia and Texas
- Manage lien waiver exchange with subcontractors, suppliers, and owners throughout the project lifecycle
- Maintain organized lien waiver files by project to ensure documentation is complete and accessible
- Monitor preliminary notices and lien deadlines to protect the company's lien rights on active projects
Systems & Process
- Work within the company's accounting platform (Sage Intacct experience a strong plus)
- Identify and drive process improvement opportunities within the accounting and billing functions
- Support system enhancements, integrations, and reporting buildout as the company grows
- Maintain organized digital and physical records in compliance with company and regulatory requirements
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required
- 5 years of accounting experience, with significant exposure to the construction industry
- Deep general ledger expertise — this is fundamentally a hands-on G/L role

- Proficiency with AIA billing (G702/G703 Applications for Payment)
- Experience managing lien waivers across multiple projects and states
- Strong collections experience with a professional, relationship-oriented approach
- High proficiency in Excel and construction accounting software
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — ability to work effectively with project managers, owners, and subcontractors
Preferred
- Experience with Sage Intacct (strongly preferred)
- Familiarity with commercial or industrial roofing, specialty trade, or subcontractor accounting
- Experience supporting multi-state or multi-entity operations
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
