Safety Compliance Coordinator

The Safety Compliance Coordinator will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and compliant work environment across all plant operations. This position will be responsible for supporting and enhancing safety practices, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, and driving continuous improvement through proactive safety initiatives. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Safety and Production teams to identify risks, implement solutions, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is not intended to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

  • Incident Prevention and Response:
    • Collaborate with the Safety and Production teams to identify root causes and implement preventative and corrective actions for workplace injuries, illnesses, fire hazards, property damage, and environmental incidents.
    • Assist in preparing for and responding to OSHA inspections and citations, ensure timely and appropriate responses and corrective actions.
  • Preventative and Corrective Action Management:
    • Develop and maintain a Preventative and Corrective Action Log to track safety-related issues and ensure timely follow-up and resolution.
    • Monitor progress of corrective actions, document outcomes, and report trends to leadership for continuous improvement.
  • Safety Program Compliance and Oversight:
    • Recruiting and onboarding hourly team members for the plant's Safety Committee, focusing on strong leaders with a positive vision
    • Coordinate and schedule Safety Committee and Executive Safety Committee meetings; ensure agendas are followed and follow-up actions are documented and tracked.
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with recurring safety program requirements and certifications, including but not limited to:
      • Annual Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) certifications and program audits
      • Confined Space program reviews and documentation
      • Timely completion and display of the annual OSHA 300A Summary posting
      • Fire extinguisher and eyewash inspections and servicing
      • PIT training requirements
  • Safety Communication and Engagement:
    • Maintain accurate and organized documentation of safety-related meetings, including minutes, announcements, and updates related to Process Safety Management (PSM), health, and safety initiatives.
    • Increase employee awareness by posting relevant safety updates, key metrics, and training materials on Safety Boards and internal communication platforms such as internal app, TVs or digital signage
    • Organizing and driving June Safety Month messages and activities
  • Data Tracking and Reporting:
    • Track, analyze, and report key Safety and Health metrics to plant leadership, including incident rates, audit results, and compliance milestones.
    • Identify trends and recommend data-driven improvements to enhance safety performance.
    • Analyze results and trends with visiting physician as well as doctors used for Work Comp cases.
    • Any other tasks assigned by Manager.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or Business Administration preferred. Experience in office administration at a production facility or similar role preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to think, communicate in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to effectively communicate with shift leaders and members of the safety team.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as applications, training materials and procedure manuals. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram, written and/or verbal form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be highly proficient in all Microsoft Office Applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Must be a self-starter, able to work autonomously, understand priorities, time management, and shift between duties and tasks to accommodate a rapidly changing environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility. The employee is required to sit; use hands to finger; handle; or feel/hold objects; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; speak, hear, taste, and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vison, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Individual must be able to effectively work in a normal production environment where temperatures and noise levels may vary. Generally the incumbent must be able to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment includes normal office environment as well as occasional time spent in all areas of the plant. The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet and maintained at standard temperature. The noise level in the plant is high and temperatures vary from hot to cold. Propper PPE is required and provided.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management and may be changed (increased or decreased) by management as required.
