Job Overview

The Technical Specialist I, Product Claims will work as an auditor in the Non-GMO , Gluten-Free, Plant-Based and Non-UPF programs. This position is responsible for conducting desk and field audits, reviewing certifications, and providing technical expertise towards the development and continued improvement of standards, program materials, and procedures. The Technical Specialist I will also support audit-related activities across other certification programs, including research and development for new business opportunities and attendance at trade shows, conferences, and trainings.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Auditing

  • Conduct field audits of production and processing sites
  • Conduct desk-based audits including the review of program applications and audit reports completed by staff and regionally-based auditors

Communication and Customer Service

  • Ensure responsive and professional communication clients, other SCS staff, and third-party auditing organizations
  • Provide timely and professional support to clients on audit-related questions and issues
  • Attend and participate in trainings, trade shows, conferences, and meetings, as necessary

Technical Support

  • Oversee client non-conformity resolution processes, including review of corrective and preventative action plans, and evaluate corrective action implementation
  • Provide timely and professional guidance and support to auditors and other third-party organizations via email, phone, and virtual meetings
  • Prepare and update written guidance for third-party auditors, and provide technical support to clients as needed
  • Develop, translate, and revise program materials, reports, and report templates.
  • Develop and deliver training programs and related materials

Program Development

  • Carry out research in support of new program development
  • Develop program materials, workflows, and procedures related to preexisting programs or programs under development

Operations

  • Support and, if needed, represent the program for internal and external audits
  • Provide onboarding, management, and quality oversight of contract auditors
  • Ensure program compliance with SCS quality system
  • Additional tasks as requested by the Director and Manager

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in food science, chemistry, agriculture, or a related field or
  • 3 years of experience in auditing activities for product claims standards, such as Non-GMO Project, Gluten-Free, Plant-Based, Non-UPF or similar programs and
  • 2 years of experience in audit-related activities to the Non-GMO Project Verification program
  • Experience with third-party auditing, certification systems, ISO 9001:2008 quality systems, or other applicable industry standards
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Excellent technical writing, observation, and data management skills
  • Ability to complete time-sensitive projects and provide realistic deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication abilities and demonstrated abilities in critical analysis
  • Initiative and ability to work independently, responsive and adaptive to team environment
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or higher in a related field
  • Verbal and written proficiency in Spanish
  • Formal ISO 9001, ISO 19011, IOIA, and/or equivalent auditor training

Working Remotely

SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process.

Estimated Annual Salary

$60,000 - $70,000
