About The Role
As an Associate Originator position is an early level buyer position challenged to develop and utilize skills to build relationships with producer customers for purchasing commodities. This individual will learn and develop an understanding of grower trends and analytics, build customer rapport, buy commodities, contract management and accounts receivable. The Associate Originator is expected to build and maintain customer relationships on the origination side of the business. This role will partner closely with the logistics team, accounting team, merchandisers and facility/plant staff. You will:

Market Analytics:
- Develop skills to make buying decisions.
- Learn and understand local producer trends and assist in communicating this information to the broader team.
- Execute purchase contracts with accurate documentation and ensure contract compliance.
- Awareness and understanding of marketing alternatives and digital tools used to make purchasing decisions, as well as enhance and manage producer relationships.
- Learn and understand Scoular's risk management tools.
- Develop an operational understanding of risk management by assisting the team managing risk exposure.
- Form and articulate thoughts and insights on the market.
- Develop an understanding of supply chain management, truck/rail execution, and coordinating logistics and transportation for grain shipments.
- Develop relationships with the freight providers.
- Learn and gain proficiency in Scoular systems, tools, reports (ScoularView, Power BI, CTRM, Field Direct, LMS etc.).
- Grow knowledge of systems and procedures that document and support execution activity.
- Partner to develop, build and maintain producer relationships to meet Scoular’s strong customer service expectations.
- Participate in industry relevant trades shows by arranging a booth when applicable, working the Trade Shows and Producer Meetings as well as other industry functions.
- Contact producers who have not sold products to Scoular with the objective of learning about their operation and what it would take to have them deliver their product to a Scoular facility/plant or sell FOB the farm.
- Learn and assist team in contract management activities including reconciling balances with customers.
- Build technical skills and an understanding of contract management and accounts receivable for business team transactions.
- Currently pursing or recently obtained a Bachelor’s degree in business related field or equivalent experience.
- Exceptional customer service skills and relationship building capability.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly skilled in problem solving techniques.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Ability to travel, as needed.
- Knowledge of the agricultural industry.
- Demonstrated aptitude in accounting and financial practices and procedures.
