Job Overview

Scope Health and Wellness is seeking a compassionate QMHS - Behavioral Respite to join our behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide short-term, supportive care to individuals experiencing mental health crises or behavioral challenges, ensuring their safety and well-being in a structured environment. Your expertise will help stabilize patients, facilitate positive behavior management, and support their transition back into the community or ongoing treatment plans. Duties

  • Monitor and observe patients continuously to assess behavioral and emotional states, ensuring safety at all times.
  • Implement and document individualized behavior management strategies to promote positive behaviors and reduce risks.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to behavioral crises or emergencies using crisis intervention techniques.
  • Assist with medication administration under supervision, adhering strictly to medical terminology and protocols.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, documenting patient observations, interventions, and responses in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including psychiatry, nursing, and medical staff—to develop and update patient care plans.

Support patients through therapeutic activities, ensuring a safe environment conducive to recovery and stability.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Human Services, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Education, or another behavioral science field from an accredited institution.
  • Current Ohio Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS) or Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist (QBHS) certification is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, or families in a behavioral health or human services setting.
  • Must have Medicaid and NPI numbers
  • CPR/First-aid certified
  • Experience with Medicaid documentation and Ohio behavioral health regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent behavioral health.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to establish rapport with youth and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and behavioral health documentation requirements.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, compassion, and sound judgment during challenging situations.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, cultural competence, and continuous professional development.

Experience

  • Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities or mental health conditions in psychiatric hospital, acute care, or correctional facility medical clinic settings is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention, behavior management, and patient observation are essential for success in this role.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric patient care practices, medical terminology, and medication administration procedures is required.
  • Experience working with behavioral health populations in hospital or psychiatric care environments will be advantageous.
  • Proven ability to monitor patient behavior closely while maintaining professionalism and compassion is critical.
  • Familiarity with medical records management and patient monitoring systems ensures accurate documentation of care activities.
  • Strong understanding of working within multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive psychiatric care is highly valued.
