Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Clinical Director to lead our behavioral health agency with passion and expertise. In this pivotal role, you will oversee clinical operations, ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, and foster a collaborative environment that promotes growth and excellence. This Clinical Director position serves as a key member of the leadership team and is responsible for overseeing all clinical operations, supporting licensed counselors and case managers, monitoring documentation quality, assisting with prior authorization and payer requirements, and helping ensure that clients receive appropriate services.
Scope Health and Wellness is seeking an experienced and energetic individual to provide clinical leadership for our outpatient behavioral health office in Franklin County.
Position: Full-Time Salary, Monday-Friday. 40 hours per week. No set office hours, as this position requires a flexible approach based on the supervision needed at different facilities. Travel within Ohio may be required for expansion purposes.
The position works under the direction of the CEO.
This position requires strong clinical judgment, administrative capability, leadership skills, and the ability to balance staff support, regulatory compliance, deliberate with company changes, meet documentation standards, and be solution-based while taking the initiative to develop and meet company organizational needs and goals.
Job Duties:
- Provide leadership for clinical services for programming design, review, implement, and modify clinical services as needed for the organization's various levels of care
- Manage and mentor clinical staff members
- Assist with the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, workflows, and documentation standards.
- Establish and maintain a departmental structure and define roles that support the organization
- Support prior authorization processes, including ensuring clinical documentation supports requested levels of care and continued stay criteria.
- Seek knowledge on the latest level of care requirements relating to behavioral health services for our youth.
- Assist with and participate in audits, chart reviews, corrective action plans, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Monitor client care concerns, clinical risk issues, incidents, and staff performance concerns.
- Train and coach staff on documentation, ASAM criteria, treatment planning, discharge planning, and clinical best practices.
- Lead and participate in clinical staffing meetings, treatment planning, case consultation, and care coordination.
- Implement effective measurement criteria for key initiatives to continually assess progress and objectives to improve the effectiveness of the clinical department
- Manage and maintain appropriate census needs with a 10% growth rate year after year.
- Manage Discharge planning and transitional needs
- Mentor personnel to achieve a stronger overall organization
- Ensure all patients have treatment plans that meet their clinical needs and communication with family and referral sources is provided efficiently and in a timely manner
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical consultation for new patients in all programs
- Reviews staff performance, completes reviews, and career development plans
- Monitors all clinical records and programming
- Manage crisis intervention protocols and crisis management procedures to ensure immediate response capabilities for urgent situations involving mental health or behavioral crises.
- Participates in weekly leadership meetings
- Develop and implement evidence-based treatment modalities programs, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and applied behavior analysis (ABA) tailored to diverse populations.
- Participate in intake processes for new clients, ensuring thorough assessments that inform individualized care plans.
- Maintain knowledge on the latest news alerts, OAC regulations, and state-specific compliance changes.

- Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, Ohio DBH, and behavioral health regulatory requirements
- Ensure compliance with all applicable licensing standards, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding for billing purposes, and medical terminology accuracy in documentation.
Required Education/Professional Qualifications:
- Minimum Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or a related field
- Active LISW-S, LPCC-S, or LPCC license in the state of Ohio
- Minimum 5 years experience providing treatment services for Behavioral mental health and/or addiction under an organization.
- Minimum 3 years experience in a supervisory position in behavioral mental health treatment
- Knowledge of Medicaid documentation requirements, medical necessity, ASAM criteria, and prior authorization processes.
- Strong understanding of outpatient levels of care, including IOP, OP, case management, and individual counseling.
- Ability to review charts, identify documentation concerns, and provide clear feedback to staff.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical and administrative environment.
- CANS assessor certified.
- Familiar with Joint Commission accreditation requirements for environmental risk, suicidal risk, and safety care.
- Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and goal-driven
- Extensive knowledge of behavioral health treatments, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), addiction counseling, PTSD care, and working with individuals with autism or neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Strong background in crisis intervention techniques and crisis management strategies.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, families, and individuals with Low IQ.
- Familiarity with the electronic health records (EHR) system Valant or similar; proficiency in medical records management; understanding of HIPAA compliance requirements.
Pay:
Starting at $95,000.00 per year, with an expected goal to reach $125,000.00 after reaching specific company goals and metrics.
