SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is One-Year Only (OYO). The Scituate School Department is seeking a qualified Multilingual Learner (MLL) Service Provider Consultant to support the district's implementation of high-quality services for multilingual learners in accordance with Rhode Island and federal requirements. The MLL Service Provider Consultant will work collaboratively with district and building administrators, classroom teachers, specialists, students, and families to support the identification, assessment, programming, progress monitoring, and educational needs of multilingual learners across grades PK–12. RESPONSIBILITIES The MLL Service Provider Consultant will: Support the district's implementation of MLL services consistent with Rhode Island regulations and applicable federal requirements. Support the identification, screening, placement, and monitoring of students who may be eligible for MLL services. Administer and/or coordinate appropriate English language proficiency assessments, including the WIDA Screener and ACCESS for ELLs, consistent with state requirements. Maintain accurate and timely records related to student identification, language proficiency, services, assessment, progress monitoring, and exit from MLL programming. Maintain and support required district and state MLL data and reporting. Consult with classroom and content-area teachers regarding appropriate instructional strategies, scaffolds, accommodations, and supports for multilingual learners. Support educators in providing multilingual learners meaningful access to grade-level curriculum and high-quality Tier 1 instruction. Support the implementation and coordination of appropriate Dedicated English Language Development (ELD) and Integrated Language and Content Instruction. Review language proficiency, academic achievement, classroom performance, and other relevant evidence to assist educators and teams in determining appropriate student supports. Participate in PLCs, MTSS teams, student support teams, and other collaborative structures, as appropriate, to support multilingual learners. Assist teams in considering linguistic, cultural, instructional, and academic factors prior to special education referral and in distinguishing language acquisition needs from potential disability-related needs. Serve as a resource and consultant to district and building administrators, teachers, specialists, and other staff regarding multilingual learner programming, second-language acquisition, assessment, and effective instructional practices. Provide or coordinate professional learning and resources for educators working with multilingual learners. Support school and district administrators in monitoring the effectiveness of MLL programming and identifying areas for continuous improvement. Partner with multilingual students and families to promote meaningful family engagement and understanding of MLL programs, services, assessments, and educational opportunities. Assist schools in strengthening culturally and linguistically responsive communication and school-family partnerships. Advocate for equitable access to academic programs, interventions, enrichment opportunities, extracurricular activities, and other educational opportunities for multilingual learners. Remain current with Rhode Island MLL regulations, WIDA standards and assessments, and evidence-based practices in multilingual education. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by district administration. The candidate will recognize multilingualism and cultural diversity as assets and demonstrate the ability to build educator capacity through consultation, collaboration, professional learning, and evidence-informed practices. TERMS OF SERVICE Consultant position. The schedule, scope of services, compensation, and duration will be established by the Scituate School Department based upon district needs. This is an hourly consultant position, with hours scheduled based on the needs of the district and its multilingual learners. The number of hours may vary throughout the school year depending on student enrollment, service needs, assessment requirements, consultation needs, and other district priorities. This position does not guarantee a minimum number of hours.
