What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Editor / Conform & Finishing Editor position at Scissor Films?
Assistant Editor / Conform & Finishing Editor
Compensation: $4,000 per month
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Location: On-site
About the Role:
Scissor Films is seeking a highly organized and technically skilled Assistant Editor to support our growing post-production team.
This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone who can confidently take ownership of conforming, finishing, quality control, client revisions, exports, and final deliverables. The ideal candidate is highly proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro, comfortable working in After Effects, and experienced in professional post-production workflows.
Our producers are also working editors, so this person will play an important role in keeping projects moving efficiently—handling technical finishing, addressing client notes, preparing versions, and ensuring every deliverable meets both our internal standards and the client’s specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conform and finish projects in Adobe Premiere Pro.
- Perform detailed quality-control reviews using project-specific QC checklists.
- Verify that final deliverables meet all required technical specifications, including resolution, frame rate, codec, aspect ratio, audio configuration, file naming, versioning, graphics, slates, end cards, and other delivery requirements.
- Address editorial notes and client revisions directly in Premiere Pro.
- Open and revise existing After Effects projects, including updating graphics, text, timing, animation, end cards, and other visual elements.
- Support producer-editors by taking ownership of technical revisions, finishing tasks, exports, and deliverables.
- Prepare social-media cutdowns and alternate versions from existing campaigns and long-form edits.
- Organize projects, media, graphics, exports, and version histories so files remain clean and easy for the team to navigate.
- Identify technical or creative issues before projects are delivered to clients.
- Coordinate renders and exports across Premiere Pro, After Effects, and related applications.
- Troubleshoot common post-production, storage, media, software, and workflow issues.
- Communicate clearly with producers, editors, and other team members regarding project status, missing assets, technical concerns, and delivery requirements.
- Manage multiple projects, revisions, and deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- Significant professional experience as an Assistant Editor, Senior Assistant Editor, Conform Editor, Online Editor, or Finishing Editor.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and the ability to make revisions within existing graphics and animation projects.
- Demonstrated experience conforming, finishing, and delivering professional video projects.
- Excellent QC skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of professional video formats, codecs, resolutions, frame rates, aspect ratios, audio configurations, and export settings.
- Experience interpreting and efficiently addressing client and editorial notes.
- Strong project organization, media management, versioning, and file-management skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and meet fast-moving deadlines.
- Clear communication and a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach.
- Strong general technical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot post-production workflow issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Motion graphics or graphic-design experience beyond basic After Effects revisions.
- Familiarity with 3D applications and workflows.
- Professional 3D expertise is not required, but the ability to open projects, coordinate assets, and manage renders or exports is a plus.
- Experience with social-media campaigns, branded content, commercials, or agency production.
- Familiarity with shared storage, remote workflows, review platforms, and collaborative post-production environments.
- General IT knowledge related to media storage, software, workstations, networks, and post-production systems.
Who Will Succeed in This Role:
You will be successful in this position if you are the person who catches issues before anyone else sees them. You are methodical about QC, comfortable jumping between Premiere Pro and After Effects, and able to turn client notes into accurate revisions without extensive supervision.
You understand that finishing is about more than exporting a file—it requires organization, technical judgment, consistency, and careful attention to every detail. You take pride in delivering clean, polished work and want to grow with a company where strong performance can lead to greater responsibility and opportunity.
