What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Manager, Software Engineering position at SCIGON?
Senior Manager, Software Engineering
About the Opportunity
Our platform supports thousands of entrepreneurs in growing their income and transforming their futures. We’re now in a defining chapter—reinventing how we build software, scaling our delivery capabilities, and creating an engineering culture that attracts and develops exceptional talent.
We’re searching for a Senior Engineering Manager who is passionate about people, process, and progress. Someone who treats leadership as a craft—balancing technical direction, human development, and operational excellence.
If you’re driven by empowering teams, elevating engineering standards, and shaping how a modern tech organization operates, this role gives you real influence and room to build something meaningful.
Your Leadership Scope
You’ll take ownership of a mixed-capacity engineering group—approximately 14 developers (a blend of full-time engineers and contractors). In this role, you will:
- Lead, coach, and develop engineers across varying levels of experience
- Drive measurable outcomes across delivery, quality, and operational health
- Own end-to-end delivery for critical products and initiatives
- Promote engineering best practices across performance, security, reliability, and automation
- Partner closely with Product, Architecture, and business stakeholders to align priorities and strategy
- Foster a culture anchored in accountability, autonomy, learning, and continuous improvement
What Success Looks Like
In your first 12-18 months, success means:
- Faster and more predictable delivery cycles
- Higher team engagement and noticeable improvements in morale and ownership
- Visible innovation—new ideas, prototypes, and shipped value that moves the business
- Stronger cross-team partnership, not just within your immediate group
- A leadership brand respected across the engineering organization
Our Technology Landscape
We’re on a multi-year modernization path, shifting from legacy monolithic systems to a modular, event-driven, and composable architecture. You’ll help shape its evolution.
Our current environment includes:
- Frontend: Angular, React, TypeScript, Next.js
- Backend: Node.js, Java (legacy services), REST APIs
- Eventing: Kafka
- Cloud: AWS (EC2, S3, CloudFormation, Lambda)
- CI/CD & Tooling: Jenkins, Bitbucket, Jira, Dynatrace, Snyk, AI-assisted development tools
- E-commerce: Modern microservices architecture, with Hybris supporting key legacy capabilities
This is not a maintenance role—you will be actively guiding a technology transformation.
Why This Role Stands Out
- True ownership over how engineering operates
- A chance to build and modernize—not just maintain and patch
- A leadership path with visible growth potential
- Influence over people, process, and technology direction
- A seat at the table with leaders who expect and value your perspective
What You Bring
We’re looking for a leader who has:
- Experience managing and elevating high-performing engineering teams (7-15 engineers is ideal)
- A proven ability to increase delivery velocity, engineering quality, or cultural health
- Strong coaching experience with mid-level and senior engineers
- The ability to collaborate with Product partners while still owning delivery outcomes
- A balance of strategic thinking and disciplined execution
- A proactive, solution-oriented mindset
Growth Path
This role is designed with upward mobility in mind. As you demonstrate impact, you’ll gain expanding responsibility, broader scope, and deeper organizational influence.
