We are looking for a talented Registered Veterinary Technician with laboratory animal research experience. Candidates can look forward to helping set up and scale a focused research program in collaboration with a world-class team of scientists and engineers with diverse technical backgrounds. Role responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Attending Veterinarian, handle the day to day veterinary care for our animals across a range of species.
- Perform routine and specialized veterinary technical procedures including anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, sample collection, and medication administration
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (USDA, OLAW, AAALAC as applicable)
- Adhere to the institutional standard operating procedures (SOPs) for animal care and use
- Train and mentor junior staff on proper animal handling techniques and laboratory procedures
- Monitor animal health daily and report any concerns to the Attending Veterinarian
- Manage inventory of veterinary supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels
- Participate in facility inspections and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Key qualifications:
- Current Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) certification.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in the research laboratory animal medicine setting.
- Evidence of exceptional judgment and trustworthiness.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory animal regulations and guidelines
- Proficiency in animal handling techniques for multiple species
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Must be able to work a flex schedule to include one weekend day
Preferred qualifications:
- Current Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification.
- Experience with modern surgical procedures for medical device development in both rodents and USDA covered species.
- Familiarity with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) standards
- Experience with large animal models (swine, sheep, or non-human primates)
