The Schweikher House Preservation Trust is dedicated to promoting the historic Schweikher House through guided tours, special events, concerts, and lectures. Designed by renowned architect Paul Schweikher, the house represents a unique landmark in architectural history combining elements of Japanese design with International style modernism as well as a rural vernacular of building. The Schweikher House was also the home to nuclear physicist Alexander Langsdorf and Martyl, a prolific artist and original designer of the Doomsday Clock. The Trust works to preserve the legacy of the house and its architectural and cultural significance.
Role Description
This is a part-time, on-site role for a Museum Coordinator located in Schaumburg, IL. The Coordinator will oversee the daily operations of the historic Schweikher House, including providing guided tours, organizing events, conducting website and social media updates. The Coordinator will also create and establish a volunteer training regimen and manual to train docents for tours/events and develop various tour scripts for different levels of educational tours. Additional responsibilities include coordinating preservation efforts, interacting with the public, managing visitor inquiries, grant writing and research, and collaborating with educational and cultural organizations to expand outreach programs. The role requires a proactive individual who can handle guest services, administrative duties, ensure the site's upkeep, and foster community engagement.
Qualifications
- Experience in event coordination, scheduling, and visitor services
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Knowledge of cultural heritage preservation and historical research
- Proficiency in marketing, public relations, and community engagement
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively on-site
- Experience in museum or cultural institution management is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Historic Preservation, History, Arts Administration, or a related field is preferred
This role will serve as an Independent Contractor working approximately 20 hours per week.
