ITINERANT RESOURCE TEACHER (NON-PUBLIC/PRIVATE SCHOOLS)


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited training program with a major in special education.
  • A valid certificate to teach special education in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Any alternative to the above as the Intermediate Unit Board of Directors may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • To develop and implement itinerant instructional programs for school-aged children with disabilities, in non-public/private schools, and provide consultative services to the classroom teacher.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized educational service plans and equitable participation plans for school-aged children with disabilities and provide consultation to the classroom teacher.
  • Assist non-public and private schools in the identification of school-aged children with disabilities.
  • Assess those potentials and abilities of school-aged children that would permit the development and evaluation of an individualized educational service plan.
  • Assist parents of school-aged children with disabilities in preparing individualized educational service plane.
  • Serve as a consultant to non-public and private schools in educational matters pertaining to children with disabilities.
  • Maintain accurate data collection and documentation so as to fully evaluate and substantiate program and pupil progress.
  • Comply with federal and state regulations and policies pertaining to exceptional school-aged children enrolled in non-public/private schools.
  • Prepare daily and weekly schedules to support the instructional activities to meet the needs of the students receiving services.
  • Participate in parent conferences and all planning sessions necessary for effective programming and selection of materials for school-aged children on the caseload.
  • Prepare requisitions and inventories required for selecting and maintaining instructional equipment and programs.
  • Maintain a continuing self-educational program designed to become acquainted with current research, practices and procedures so as to maintain the best instructional program for school-aged children with disabilities.
  • Adapt instructional materials to meet the needs of exceptional children assigned to the program.

Reports To:

  • Director of Special Education

Method of Evaluation:

  • Annual evaluations to be completed by the Director of Special Education or their designee in accordance with provisions established by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 Evaluation Process for Professional Employees.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Terms of Employment:

  • Ten (10) month year. Salary and work year established by a negotiated agreement between the Intermediate Unit Board of Directors and the Teachers’ Bargaining Unit.

  • This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate; visual acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Work is done mainly indoors but could include outside tasks.
