What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shop Assistant position at Schultz Engineered Products Inc.?

ABOUT US
Founded in 1995 by Rob Schultz, we design and manufacture innovative fueling solutions for aviation and high-performance motorsports. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Shop Assistant is a true jack-of-all-trades — a key member of our production team who keeps the shop running smoothly from top to bottom. This hands-on role combines essential facility care, including cleaning, sanitizing, and maintenance, with support across our machine and fabrication shops. Responsibilities include material prep, part assembly, equipment upkeep, and quality control, making every day varied and engaging.

If you take pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace, enjoy a mix of janitorial and technical tasks, and are mechanically inclined, this is a great opportunity to join a team that values skill, reliability, and attention to detail.

KEY RESPONBILITIES

  • Cleaning and Sanitizing: Sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors in the shop floor, break rooms, offices, and restrooms.
  • Waste Management: Collecting and disposing of trash, recycling materials, and sometimes hazardous industrial waste according to safety protocols.
  • General Maintenance: Performing minor repairs on plumbing, electrical systems, and the building structure (e.g., patching drywall, fixing leaky faucets, changing light bulbs).
  • Equipment Upkeep: Conduct routine equipment checks and perform basic preventative maintenance on shop equipment and tools. Clean machinery exteriors and assist skilled technicians with preventative maintenance or more complex repairs.
  • Inventory Management: Monitoring and restocking cleaning supplies, maintenance materials, and restroom essentials. Also, manage shop inventory, track materials, and pick orders for production.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensuring all areas meet safety standards, keeping walkways clear of obstructions, and potentially maintaining safety equipment like fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, etc.
  • Assist in both the machine and fabrication shops with setup, prep, and material cutting.
  • Assist with material handling — cutting, moving, staging, and organizing stock for production.
  • Cut, deburr, or clean parts as needed.
  • Assist with assembly and finishing of mechanical components as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and fabricators to support production needs.
  • Support quality control by inspecting parts and components.
  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing, machine shop, or maintenance environment preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand and power tools.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain one.
  • Reliable and self-motivated, able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Punctual and eager to learn.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
  • Ability to work efficiently with a sense of urgency while maintaining high quality standards.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
